How to Read Our Keyword Ranking Reports
The illustration below shows the important elements to be found in our keyword marketing reports. In general, those reports with few words/phrases shown will indicate these were "budget" (or "short term") clients. Reports which show ongoing ranking over a longer period of time, and which contain a wide variety of words, phrases, and search engine reports, are more likely to be "premium" clients who have chosen our higher-end service plans.

This example shows a company specific report. The first column shows the keyword or key phrase, which is based on both the client's website content, as well as optimized terms which the client has asked to be found under. As a subset of this term, to the right, are rows which are color coded based on different search engines. To the right of this are sub-sections which show the ranking position for that search engine, and the date we documented the ranking.

With many of our client reports, you can look at a term (using the example below) like "advertising characters." In Google, the term ranked #10 out of 1,200,000 after our first round of optimization. Over time, as we continued to optimize, as well as enter the site content into our ContextEngine™ system, the rankings improved, moving up to #5. With this particular client, certain #1 spots have been difficult due to the fact the site is almost entirely Flash-based. Even so, we have achieved remarkable results for the client, who is extremely pleased with the resulting increase in qualified traffic, and actual sales from the online shop.

With some clients our rankings may be followed over the course of years, to illustrate that the majority of our achieved rankings "stick" and do not disappear over time (unless the client revises the website and retires ranking content, and/or we no longer do ongoing optimization for the client). Some of our reports will show that even though we have done no further optimization for a client in more than 12 months, their rankings have been maintained, and not diminished.

NOTE: Rankings can and will change over time due to a wide variety of factors including website changes (redesign, content retirement, etc.), changes in search engine algorithms, mergers of search engines (i.e., Yahoo! acquiring Inktomi and Overture/AltaVista), and discontinuation of a specific DotSorcerer plan over time (which would lower placement of content within our proprietary ContextEngine™ system). Some Websites are also inherently "challenged" due to use of frames-based layouts, Flash-based content, or pop-ups; in these cases, ranking results will often be lower than their potential for "normal" site architecture (thus, sites with a potential for a #1 rank, might instead rank no higher than #6, #19, etc. under certain popular phrases).
