Understanding Keyword Optmization Strategies
Effective website optimization
is a process whereby the HTML and/or dynamic templates of a website are "optimized" to enhance various factors, such as speed of page loading, or for search engine marketing (SEM) to enhance the page(s) ability to be read by search bots and "spiders."
With keyword optimization there is no magic bullet, or specific approach that works for all websites. Some sites need to have missing standard HTML fixed, such as META tags (which are used by about 30-50% of search engines, typically those without their own "bots" to spider content). Some need correct use of alternate body content with frames-based layouts, or missing TITLE tags.
Sometimes there is insufficient textual content, and this is a common problem with Flash-based, or all-graphic designs, which have little or no actual html text-based content (like what you're reading now). Unfortunately, the spiders which traverse your web content and find themes and contextual data, cannot "read" graphics or Flash. Imagine a clean white piece of typing paper: with text typed on it. Now imagine a thin overlay of clear plastic. On top of this imagine a small box. Using this concept, anything you have as text in standard HTML would be written on the paper — this can be "read" off the paper by a search engine, and is used as the basis for how your site is found and ranked in search results. Graphics live on the thin overlay, and any text that is found in a graphic cannot be seen by the search engine because the text is no longer "real text" but a graphic object just like a photograph. Flash content is a self-contained movie application, and while it may have text and interactivity, search engines cannot read this content because it lives in its own "container," or the box in our analogy. Search engines can only see what is on the flat piece of paper, and cannot read Flash content inside the box.
The process of keyword optimization is based around the procedures to address these, and other concerns, to enable a website page (the white piece of paper in the above analogy) to be "better read" by a search engine, and perhaps rank better.
